Millaray, whose name means 'flower of gold', is a Chilean Indian girl who longs to go to boarding-school like her big brother. Her wish is granted at last : and at the mission school she learns to be a nurse, faces danger, and makes the greatest decision of all. This story is set against an authentic background, for the author spent thirty years in Chile as a missionary nurse.
