Very well written book, Elizabeth George goes into depth about what god wants in a woman & how to be faithful Christian followers of Christ. She includes exemplary stories of the bible like Moses, & many more. She gives examples about her daughters in the section of being pure to yourself & god. She also mentions a couple sections about choosing your friends wisely & how to always include god in whatever you do. At the end of every chapter, she always includes activities for you to look up with verses from the bible. Very interesting book that teaches us true life lessons & can really help us with our inner spiritual self to help improve relationships & our lifestyles. I recommend this book to any young girl that wants a wise advice to help them with everyday situations.

As a single young woman, one of the things God has laid on my heart is to reach out to younger girls who want to grow spiritually. God has opened doors in amazing ways, and over the last couple of years I’ve been in a position to really invest in the lives of several teenage girls. Last year I was able to lead a group through Elizabeth George’s book A Young Woman after God’s Own Heart.

Written in a chatty, down-to-earth style, this book is not only enjoyable, but solidly Biblical. The girls in my group were from very diverse backgrounds–from broken homes to homeschool Christian families–but all were able to relate the issues raised. Mrs. George does a great job of tackling problems head-on, and she uses lots of Scripture, which I really appreciate. It’s also a pretty and “girly” looking book, which is always a plus.

Some of the topics addressed are: Pursing God (prayer, Bible reading and personal devotions, obedience), submission, loving others, family relationships, honoring parents, interacting with peers, growing, serving, and purity. Each chapter has a “Bible study” section at the end, and I had my girls look up verses, fill in answers, and discuss the questions with the group. It was even good for the girls who were not saved — it made some of them think seriously about real-life issues — and those who were Christians were able to go much deeper and get a lot out of it. While it’s geared to a younger group (probably ages 12-16), it’s a great resource for any of us who are in some kind of discipleship/ministry position with teenage girls. I recommend it.

Tells in detail how a teenage girl should aspire to live her daily life. Using stories from the bible, it makes connections between young women in the past and the young women of today.

I like the author’s writing style - very conversational. At the end of each chapter there were journal questions, in addition to scriptures to journal and apply. However, I didn’t find the book as a whole particularly amazing. The tone of the book was definitely “complete these checklists and make these changes and you’ll become a woman after God’s own heart.” The Christian life is so much more than a checklist; changes need to be made in the power of the Holy Spirit, of which there was little mention.

Some more minor concerns were that she wasn’t the best at looking at the entire context of the passage. For instance, she quoted verses with the words “pure” and “purity” as if they were specifically referring to sexual purity, when they were talking about having a clean life before God, which involves so much more than your sexuality. There were also a few places where the author came across as if she had it all together and was the standard for Christian living.

MY REVIEW:

The classic book for women - A Woman After God's Own Heart now in format for teen girls of all ages! This book is the perfect Bible Study or simply a pleasure read for a teen girl who desires to know more about Jesus or grow in her relationship with Jesus. While this book is packed full of Biblical truth, sound advice, and practical application, it is also a fun book to read as Elizabeth has fun with 12 to 16 year old girls.

I liked the fun approach of this book to deep issues in a young woman's heart. It addresses the basics of her Christian life in an easy to understand presentation. Elizabeth probes deep without being overwhelming and she encourages hand-in-hand with her challenges to young woman. I especially like how this book can be used for a teen girl while her mother goes through the original version - a fun way to learn together!

I lead multiple Bible studies in my home for teenage girls (the middleschoolers and the highschoolers)using this book and this has truly impacted so many of their lives. Even some of the mom's have been transformed by what they've read with their girls. Alot of this information is not being addressed in our churches which is one reason why I became so convicted this book needed to be taught. Teaching the 1st chapter by itself and the following 14 chapters, 3 @ a time, seemed to work the best. Elisabeth George articulates God's plan for Godly girlhood so beautifully...and of course...everything is held up to God's Word so they know it's the Truth.

This is an excellent book for any daughter or young girl in your life who needs to know the heart of God for her life. This book highlights the common everyday things that our young female teens face. They will learn that through their daily challenges of being a teen, there is hope through Christ Jesus and power to stand.

A Young Woman After God’s Own Heart is a book about a Girls relationship with God and the people around her. The way Elizabeth Elliot wrights is a little flowery for my taste but some girls will very much enjoy it. I was able to discuss this book in a small group and it was beneficial. You can gather quite a bit from this book and the scripture references are wonderful.

This is a very good study to do with a teen girl. It covers a variety of topics that teen girls deal with, which is helpful. The chapters are short, and typically there are only three or four study questions. I think that helps keep the student from being overwhelmed. It would be a terrific study for a teenage girl who is a newer Believer who needs discipleship.

It's been a while since I read this book (as in, four or five years!), but I remember it having taught me a lot as a young teenager. Really, really good for any young teenage girl struggling to continue a pure relationship with God despite the interference of the world.

Even though I am 22, I still got this book because it could still relate to me where I am at right now in life. I highly recommend this book for every young teenage girl out there (13-18 years old) and it also is a awesome book for those of us who are college age and not married yet.

used this one for a summer book study with the teen girls. We all loved it and it spurred some great conversation and seems to challenge the girls in their walk with the Lord.
